The sportiest version of Porsche’s top-selling model is getting a makeover that includes a powerful engine and a performance-oriented chassis. The 2020 Macan GTS arrives in U.S. dealerships next summer and starts at $72,650, including shipping.
The Macan, with 20,992 U.S. sales in the first 11 months of the year, accounts for almost three of every eight Porsche deliveries in the market.
The Macan GTS is powered by a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V-6 that delivers 375 hp — 15 hp more than the outgoing model. The crossover has a top speed of 162 mph and can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds.
Adaptive air suspension, which comes standard, can lower the chassis by 10 mm (0.4 inch). Standard 20-inch RS Spyder Design wheels and large cast-iron brakes deliver sports-car agility and responsiveness in a crossover package.
The Porsche Surface Coated Brake, available as an option, uses a tungsten-carbide coating, a material Porsche said is 10 times harder. The coating increases friction, which improves stopping distance and reduces brake dust by up to 90 percent.
