Over the past few months, Ford has launched a barrage of SUVs, introducing key models like the new Ford Escape, new Explorer, and most recently, the all-electric Ford Mustang Mach-E—and it’s not done with its SUV assault yet. The latest thing to hit the internet? Our first glimpse at what could be the so-called “baby Bronco’s” front grille. First posted on enthusiast forum Broco6G, the grille is the first piece of the small off-roader we’ve seen in the metal.
For the uninitiated, the baby Bronco is an off-road-oriented lifestyle SUV that will slot beneath the upcoming Ford Bronco, both in size and capability. The baby Bronco likely won’t share much with the full-on Bronco. Instead it will be a small, rugged-looking crossover that’s based off of the new Focus’ platform—the one that’s not sold here in the ‘States—and will be about the size of an Escape. Both the baby Bronco and standard Bronco are set to be released by the end of 2020.
The leaked grille seems to match up very closely to some photos that were leaked from a Ford dealer event in Las Vegas late in 2018. The grille—or what might be tooling for making the grille—looks to have room for almost Q-shaped led daytime running lights that feed slightly into the middle of the fascia. One difference between this leak and the one from last year is that this grille has the word “BRONCO” stamped in very bold lettering in the center, rather than the Ford logo. That hints that the off-road-oriented crossover will be badged as a Bronco to strengthen its ties to its larger sibling. Ford previously trademarked the name Bronco Scout.
It’s looking like 2020 is going to be quite the year for the Blue Oval, with the Mustang Mach-E set to make its first deliveries, and now the first pieces of the Bronco puzzle starting to come together. We can’t wait.
Thanks to Bronco6G for the photo.
