2020 Skoda Superb iV Estate PHEV: Is It One Of The Best Family Cars Out There?

Reviews

Skodas have always been roomier and more affordable alternatives to Volkswagen’s offerings, with the latest Superb iV plug-in hybrid giving the German brand’s Passat GTE a run for its money.

It uses the same powertrain that combines a 1.4-liter petrol unit with an electric motor and kicks out 218 PS (215 HP / 160 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. The electric juice comes from the 13 kWh battery that gives it an all-quiet range of up to 35 miles (56 km) in the WLTP test cycle. Charging it up at a wall box takes 3 and a half hours.

The Superb iV keeps it simple on the styling front as the only differences over the regular model are the redesigned bumper and grille and an ‘iV’ badge at the back, so it will fly under the radar to the untrained eye. In the cabin, it features a standard 8-inch infotainment system or an optional 9.2-inch screen, and can be fitted with digital dials for an added cost. It’s offered in four trim levels in the UK, with prices ranging between £33,250 ($43,373/€40,039) an £40,240 ($52,492/€48,456).

According to the reviewer, you may want to upgrade to the £36,035 ($47,006/€43,392) SE L, which slots between the base SE Technology and SportLine Plus, and under the L&K. It brings Wi-Fi hotspot, satellite navigation system, full matrix LED headlights, 18-inch wheels and a few other extras. When combined with the 510 liters (18 cu-ft) of boot space and very generous room for adults on the back seat, it’s definitely a lot of car for the money.

Users won’t be disappointed by the suspension setup and handling of the mid-size model either, as everything has been refined for long-distance cruising with the family. So, is it one of the best D-segment cars you could get? Better head on down and click the play button to find out.
